Wondering about FCR Hawaii's pastor?

Born and raised in Hawaii, Pastor Owen Tanoue left for college on the East Coast where he became a Christian as a freshman.  A subsequent career at IBM took him first to Texas, where he met his beloved wife Kim, and then to North Carolina.  When the Lord called them to return home to care for his parents, He would also call them into full-time ministry.  It was in Hawaii that Pastor obtained his Master of Divinity, received his ordination from the Evangelical Free Church of America (EFCA), and embarked on pastoral ministry.

I met Pastor Owen and his family twenty years ago, when I was in high school and he was the newest addition to Kalihi Union Church's pastoral team, having just come back to the Islands. At the time, his humility and his incredible heart for hurting people really stood out to me. So much so, that when I returned home after many years on the mainland, my husband and I sought out their church.

For the last two years, our family has been so blessed by the Tanoue family. Despite juggling an overwhelming number of hats last year - primary caretaker for his father, church shepherd, and homeschool dad - Pastor Owen still made time to take my husband on frequent coffee pow-wows to encourage and exhort him. And, Mrs. Tanoue pours into our lives...whether it's walks on the beach or a cup of tea at her house, I know she'll be there to pray and listen whenever I need an empathetic squeeze.

Pastor Owen & Kim truly LIVE out the Gospel message. On Sunday mornings, you'll hear hard-hitting explorations of Scripture. But, you'll also be surrounded by a loving group of Christians, who have bonded together on this journey through life. Because of our Pastor's example, FCR has become a haven for so many wonderful souls. If you're searching for a church family, I hope you'll join us for a Sunday morning!

Toward the end of 2019, Pastor Owen's father went to meet Jesus. He preached at his dad's funeral and is excited to share with you the tale of a wonderful dad and a strong-willed, Nisei, 442nd veteran, local boy from Kalihi who began a new life in Christ at age 99.
